Alistair Andrews - Bass Player - Profile

Alistair Andrews is a professional bass player and bass clinician.

He specialises in multi-string basses. He plays Warwick custom 6 string fretted and fretless, as well as 12 string fretless basses.Besides his own band he plays for the Alvin Dyers Project among others.

He was born in 1960 and started listening to funk, jazz, African music, classical, rock and fusion already at a young age. His father played jazz guitar and banjo and was a strong influence on him. Jaco Pastorius would later become a major musical influence for him.

As a professional bass player, Alistair played with International greats such as Phil Driscol, Efrain Toro, Alvin Dyers, Winston Mankunku, Richard Schilder and Harold Jephta.

He released his debut album "Your Unconditional Love." in 2000. The next one is on its way.

He also plan to collaborate with various musicians from all over the continent to work on world music projects.

Mark Fransman - 'Akoustik,not'

Renowned pianist and producer Mark Fransman, winner of the prestigious SAMA awards will be returning to the popular jazz night with ' Akoustik,not' at Armchair Headset on Thursday 27th September 2007 to perform his new compositions.

Mark Fransman's musical career has developed into international status through frequent touring all over the world. This includes Euro De Afrique festival in Italy and North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague, Holland. Within music, he is a well known for his talents as a pianist, saxophonist and composer. His involvement with projects such as Tribe, Restless Natives, Strait and Narro and Bruce Muirhead Quartet are evidence of his ability and talent within South African music. The reviews he has received from this have been affirmative of his forte as Jazz Rendezvous stated: 'The man has a bright future on the jazz scene in South Africa but it is the world he needs to conquer because his talent is too large for one country'. Within music production Mark has also worked with various record labels and artists such as Moreira Chonguisa and Jimmy Dludlu on their albums, which later led him onto him winning 2 SAMA awards.

His performance at 'Armchair Headset is a unique opportunity to see Mark show his ability as a performer and a composer. All music performed on the night will be his original compositions with elements of jazz and free improvisation using Saxophone, Bass Clarinet and Eastern Gongs. He will be performing with Charles Lazar and Sean Johannes on Double Basses and Heinrich Goosen on Drums.

John Russell - Jazz Guitarist - Profile

A full time Guitar Tutor and freelance guitarist in the Jazz genre, John has performed with, among others, Emily Bruce, Denay Willie, Basil Moses, Lionel Beukes, Mike Horne, Andrew Lilly, Alistair Andrews, Kevin Gibson, Wesley Rustin and Heinrich Goosen. He has performed at top venues such as The Mount Nelson, the Arabella Sheraton, Green Dolphin Restaurant, Baxter Theatre, Nassau Centre and the Table Bay Hotel. He is a regular and popular performer at the legendary Monday Night Jazz Jam at Swingers.

John currently resides in the city of Cape Town.
