Emily Bruce 30th Birthday Concert

In 2009 Emily Bruce graced the stage of our top live Jazz event The Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Performing to a full house of roughly 2000 people Emily's performance mesmerised the audience bringing some to tears with the depth of her emotions felt through the interpretation of classic Jazz standards.

This year Blue Nightingale Productions together with Nukphonik Productions presents Emily Bruce live at SABC Beach Road Studios on Thursday March 25th as part of her 30th Birthday Concert.

From the suburbs of Cape Town our Jazz nightingale Emily Bruce has sung her way from the school choir to the South African College of Music, UCT and through twelve years of living in the gig circle of Cape Town's flourishing Jazz family Emily is reaching new heights with her vocal performance and interpretation. With her debut CD 'This Love We Share' selling 1000 copies since it's release in 2007 it is time for a new album with a different feel.

Emily Bruce '30th Birthday Concert' Thursday March 25th will be recorded and filmed for release later this year as her second Classic Jazz album and first live DVD. Together with a steller trio Dave Ledbetter (guitar and piano), Charles Lazar (double bass) and Heinrich Goosen (drums) and surprise guests Miss Bruce is sure to create a night and recording to remember. The concert begins at 8pm and drinks are available before and after the performance.

There will be an exhibition of Emily's original visual art in the foyer and all work is available for purchase. Please come early to view the exhibition and bear in mind that seating is unreserved. Tickets are R80 each and for ticket sales please call 073 041 79 50.

Emily Bruce - This Love We Share

Vocalist and final year jazz student at the SA College of Music Emily Bruce has just released her debut CD This Love We Share. A packed Nassau Centre in Newlands recently saw the birth of “her baby” as she affectionately refers to her record.

The cd is a milestone for Bruce, who has plied her trade on the local professional music circuit since the late 1990s just after matriculating. An entirely self-funded project, the album sees Bruce paying homage to influences that have helped shape her talent.

Taking her cues from the great voices of the jazz era, Bruce chose a mixture of all-time great and memorable classics to adorn the album. From timeless ballads like “Beautiful Love” to Carlos Jobim’s “How Insensitive”, she reveals a matured selection of music and brings heightened emotional energy to every song.

Recognised as one of the country’s most promising young jazz voices, Bruce remains a regular on the music circuit and often performs with the city’s top musicians at venues like the Green Dolphin and Kennedy’s Cigar Bar.
