CTIJF2008 - Music is the Universal Language

It is said that a picture paints a thousand words, however "Music is the Universal Language". It was spoken so successfully at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2008. Besides the core festival, other events that led up to the festival were also highly successful.

As I was working at the event, I did not see much of the music that I really wanted to see. One act that I did not miss though was Hiromi Uehara. She set the Moses Molelekwa stage on fire. If you have not heard of Hiromi yet, go check out her recordings.

Another female artist who made a big impression at the festival, is South African born jazz vocalist, Tutu Puoane. She released her debut CD titled "Song". After her performance, Tutu had an autograph session at her CD distributor (Jassics) stand. Judging by the amount of people queing to get her autograph, there is no doubt that she had a great performance at the festival.

Like the Cape Town International Jazz Festival became a reality, the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa, will become a reality.

"Jazz and freedom go hand in hand. That explains it. There isn't any more to add to it. If I do add to it, it gets complicated. That's something for you to think about. You think about it and dig it. You dig it..." Thelonious Monk
