Tony Schilder Benefit Concert

Mention the name Tony Schilder amongst music lovers, and immediately the song "Club Montreal" comes to mind. Tony is one of South Africa's most well known jazz pianist.

Recently, he was struck by illness to such an extent that he cannot perform anymore.

For a musician or any artist to be in the industry for so long, one would expect that there should be social structures in place that would look after or support the affected person when struck by a misfortune like illness. Unfortunately, this does not exist.

Some of Tony's fellow musicians and friends have undertaken to host a concert to raise much needed funds for him.

Musicians and artists who have committed to share their time and talent to perform include Ian Smith, Sammy Webber, Sammy Hartman, Robbie Jansen, Alistair Andrews, Alvin Dyers, Denver Furness, Mark Fransman, Frank Paco, Richard Ceaser, Gary Kriel, Ivan Bell, Buddy Wells, Mark Goliath.

The organizers would like to appeal to the corporate and private sector as well as government and the general public to please support this effort.

If you would like to sponsor anything please contact Terry fortune at terryfortune@hotmail.com

If you are a musician, please come and contribute your talents towards this effort.

The concert will be held at Club 021(Swingers Jazz Pub and Restaurant) on Sunday, 30 August 2009. Starting at 16:00
Swingers is located at 1 Wetwyn Rd, Wetton. From the mountain side, you follow Wetton from Rosmead side, go past the racecourse, over the M5 bridge, and, as soon as you go over the next (railway) bridge, take the first turn right. Swingers is straight ahead of you. Turn right before you drive into it!
