Nhlanhla Magagula Benefit Concert

This is always sad news.

A Benefit Concert to be held at Swingers Restaurant/Bar on Sunday, 24 February from 3 pm till late. Donations R30 and proceeds will go towards the family of the late pianist/composer Nhlanhla Magagula who past away round two weeks ago. Musicians in attendance will be Robbie Jansen, Allou April, Spencer Mbadu, Duke and Ezra Ngcukana, Darryl Andrews, Alvin Dyers Trio, Wayne Bosch, The Little Giants, etc to name but a few.

Nhlanhla Magagula was born in Swaziland, +- 40 years ago. He firstt arrived in Cape Town as backing musician for McCoy Mbrata in 1989. Performed at Baxter at the launch of McCoy’s first album. Enrolled at MAPP Music School, Joseph Stone, Athlone, 1990, Studied there for two years. On completion, set out performing in trio settings and as sideman for various artists e.g. reed player Rene Mclean; trumpeter Claus-Werner Pusch, and others

He on to producing. Influential is Jimmy Dludlu’s first album as well as production, arranging and composing of Musa Manzini’s first album.

Many musicians who knew and heard him felt him to be one of the finest pianist/composers of his generation.
