The Richtersveld

In a recent article one of South Africa's popular dj's made a comment why he loves South Africa - he said that you can get into your car, drive for 30 km and discover new places you have never been to, before.

Well, the Richtersveld is more than 30 km away from most of us. It is one of South Africa's very interesting places and recently went through a very successful land claims settlement.

Here are some links:

"It’s this ‘Proudly South African’ tradition that audiences can expect to hear" ... "which sees the multi-instrumentalist navigate an impressionistic collage of South African jazz sounds, from slam poetic minimalist re-imaginings of Afrikaans volksliedjies and Muslim calls to prayer, to goema groove deconstructions, tributes to Abdullah Ibrahim, Ngqawana’s philosophy of “Zimology” and more that, as the doyen of South African jazz scribes Gwen Ansell pointed out in Business Day recently: “live in the jazz world but are never imprisoned by it”. Miles Keylock (Mail & Guardian)

Pan African Space Station Live 2009

The Pan African Space Station Live Events 2009 was great and very well supported. This was only the second one but we are looking forward to a bigger one in 2010. Neo, Ntone and Team, you guys are doing a brilliant job.

Besides the live music events, the studio discussions and events, the PASS intervention is a great place for networking. I met so many people and made many friends from musicians to dj's, photographers, writers, poets, writers, producers, event organisers, film makers and the oridinary you and me.

Go Well Winston Mankunku Ngozi

It is with much sadness that we heard about the passing on of a great South African Music legend, Winston Mankunku Ngozi on 13 October 2009.

"Jazz and freedom go hand in hand. That explains it. There isn't any more to add to it. If I do add to it, it gets complicated. That's something for you to think about. You think about it and dig it. You dig it..." Thelonious Monk
