RESTLESS NATIVES | MELANIE SCHOLTZ QUARTET

This FRIDAY 2 May, 2008
RESTLESS NATIVES MELANIE SCHOLTZ QUARTET

@ The ASSEMBLY
61 Harrington Street, District Six
Doors open 9pm
Cover Charge is R50

Making serious waves in the Cape Town jazz scene for the last 2 years,
the RESTLESS NATIVES are one of the most popular jazz ensembles in the city. They are fast converting a wide spectrum of listeners to Jazz through there unapologetic and 'no-holds-barred' approach to the music they love most. The band plays original compositions which are strongly rooted in the modern Jazz tradition and clearly reflect what they are all about, proud South Africans. On Tuesdays they perform at Asoka in Kloof Street where their residencies pack out the venue each week (9pm, free entry)

As WhatsOnSa reported,
`Each of these musicians could quite easily take up the entire stage alone and have the audience eating out of their hands'.

Combining these diverse and talented jazz musicians enables the Restless Natives to outshine wher ever they perform

The Band:

Chris Engel Saxophones
Kesivan Naidoo Drums
Jason Reolon Piano
Shane Cooper Double Bass
Lee Thomson Trumpet/Flugel Horn

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also on the bill is vocalist MELANIE SCHOLTZ, presenting her most recent project, a Jazz Quartet featuring original compositions by young and old South African composers, as well as the more obscure Jazz standards. Melanie has recorded with Breakfast Included, Jimmy Dludlu and Marc Fransman's Strait and Narro

She is a dream to listen to and is really one of the legends of tomorrow

Her Band:

Melanie Scholtz Vocals
Andrew Lilley Piano
Charles Lazar Double Bass
Andre Schwartz Drums

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After that, DJ Honey Bee will be taking us into the early hours of the morning with her blend of old school Funk and Swing.
